Roma Health Worker – Carlow and Kilkenny

Reports to: Social Inclusion Manager

Located: Carlow town and remote working where appropriate

Target Group: Members of the Roma Community

Hours of Work: 37 hours a week for 18 months (TBC)

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Community Intercultural Health Outreach Worker – Full Time

Purpose of Role:

This is an excellent opportunity to join Carlow County Development Partnership (CCDP) in the key role of Roma Health Worker.  Joining a high performing team and management that will provide continuous support, the purpose of this role is to improve Roma health outcomes by working towards greater health access, participation and partnership working. This will involve working with a range of organisations and Roma individuals and communities across Carlow and Kilkenny including the HSE Roma Health Lead. Our ethos is a firm belief in inclusion, equality and social justice underpinned by a community development methodology.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • To continue to undertake mapping and report on the Roma population, age and family groups, nationalities (and languages spoken), situations, health and information needs of Roma for the purpose of service planning; and
  • To support Roma community members to access health services and health information and to provide general advocacy supports in order to support Roma engagement; and
  • To support action addressing the social determinants of health.

 

 

The role of the Roma Health Worker is to work on a community-based health and wellbeing project delivered at local level by Carlow County Development Partnership in collaboration with HSE Social Inclusion Dublin and South East, aiming to reduce inequalities in health and to improve access to mainstream and targeted health services for vulnerable and excluded groups in Counties Carlow & Kilkenny.

 

The successful applicant will work as part of our Social Inclusion Community Development team and experience in one or more of the following areas will be desirable:

  • A recognised 3rd level qualification (Level 7 NFQ or higher) in a health promotion and/or community development / youth and community work discipline or similar discipline
  • Experience of working using community development approaches
  • Experience in working with agencies and services
  • Experience of working with excluded groups
  • Planning, evaluation, organisational and collaborative / team working
  • A commitment to work from an anti-racist and equality work perspective
  • Access to own transport and a full clean driving licence is an essential requirement.
