Powerhouse Relaunch: A New Era of Empowerment for Businesswomen

Powerhouse Network is entering a new chapter, reigniting its mission to empower businesswomen across the Southeast. Having long been dedicated to empowering women in business, Powerhouse is now unveiling enhanced opportunities, stronger collaborations, and innovative resources that will support ambitious businesswomen at every stage of their professional journey. This exciting relaunch will be celebrated on 7th March 2025 at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel in Carlow at 12pm, coinciding with International Women’s Day and Enterprise Week. The keynote address will be delivered by Marie Gleeson, Former Irish Navy Captain, a trailblazer in leadership and resilience.

 

Proudly supported by Carlow County Council Local Enterprise Office, Carlow Library Service, County Carlow Chamber, Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet, and Southeast Technological University, Powerhouse has always encouraged collaboration as the basis of its success. As Cllr. Fergal Browne, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, remarked, As we celebrate International Women’s Day and Enterprise Week, the relaunch of Powerhouse sends a strong message of commitment to female entrepreneurship and leadership in our region.” He continued, “This initiative not only strengthens business networks but also drives innovation and economic development, ensuring that women in business have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.”

 

Melissa Doyle, Business Advisor at Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office, echoed this sentiment: The relaunch of Powerhouse marks an exciting evolution in how we support and connect businesswomen. We are committed to providing the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to thrive in today’s business landscape.”

 

Michael Quinn, President of County Carlow Chamber, emphasised the collaborative spirit of Powerhouse: “The strength of Powerhouse lies in its collaborative approach. By bringing together key stakeholders, we are ensuring that women in business have access to the very best resources and opportunities available in the Southeast.”

 

Prof. Marie Clare Van Hout, Vice President of Research, Innovation and Impact at SETU, added her perspective on the importance of entrepreneurial innovation: “Entrepreneurial innovation is key to economic growth, and Powerhouse plays a vital role in fostering this mindset among businesswomen. We are excited to support and contribute to its new chapter.”

 

Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise, Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office emphasised the power of information: “Information is power, and through Powerhouse, we aim to provide businesswomen with access to invaluable digital tools and resources that can help them stay ahead in an evolving market.”

 

Ashling Ward of Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet encapsulated the essence of leadership: “Leadership is about confidence, resilience, and the right support system. Powerhouse is that support system for businesswomen, equipping them with the skills and connections they need to excel.”

Powerhouse is dedicated to supporting female entrepreneurs, executives, and professionals, offering a platform for growth, innovation, and leadership development. This relaunch is made possible through collaboration between Carlow County Council Local Enterprise Office. Carlow Library Service, County Carlow Chamber, Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet, and Southeast Technological University. These organisations share a commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where businesswomen can thrive.

Marie Gleeson – Leadership & Resilience
Marie was one of the first female officers in the Irish Navy and served as Captain of the LÉ Aoife. With a 20-year military career, she led high-stakes missions, including international drug interceptions and crisis navigation. Her insights on decision-making, resilience, and leadership in demanding environments will inspire attendees.

 

Gemma Purcell – Enterprise Development & Innovation
As Enterprise Development Manager at South East Technological University (SETU), Gemma has extensive experience supporting startups and scaling businesses. She specializes in entrepreneurial growth, funding access, and innovation strategies to help businesses thrive.

 

Sarah Byrne – Business Growth & Strategy
Sarah, a Business Advisor at Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office, works closely with SMEs to develop growth strategies. Her expertise in financial planning, funding, and scaling businesses makes her a key resource for entrepreneurs looking to expand.

 

John Shortall – Digital Innovation & Knowledge Management

Laura Mongey – Executive Coaching & Leadership Development
Laura is an Executive Coach specializing in leadership development, career progression, and business mindset. She helps professionals and entrepreneurs unlock their potential, set strategic goals, and build high-performance teams.
