Carlow’s Decarbonising Zone (DZ) Working Group

Carlow’s Decarbonising Zone (DZ) Working Group held its inaugural meeting on 20th January 2026, marking an important step in advancing the county’s climate action commitments.
This newly formed working group brings together representatives from key local, regional, and national stakeholders to guide the development, coordination, and delivery of initiatives aimed at reducing emissions within the designated Decarbonising Zone.

Chair of the Decarbonising Group, Padraig O Gorman, Director of Services at Carlow County Council – “A Decarbonising Zone allows us to focus local effort where it has the greatest impact—reducing emissions, testing innovative climate solutions, and improving the quality of life for our community. By working closely with sectoral stakeholders, we bring together diverse expertise and perspectives, strengthening collaboration and driving practical, community‑focused actions. This shared approach helps us develop solutions that support a healthier, more resilient, and sustainable future for Carlow.”

Stakeholders represented include: Carlow County Council, Kilkenny and Carlow ETB FET , HSE , Teagasc , South East Technological University , Gas Networks Ireland , Merck Sharpe and Dohme, Local Link , IDA Ireland, County Carlow Chamber.
