Jun 23, 2025

Teams from 24 different businesses joined County Carlow Chamber for their annual Golf Classic in Carlow Golf Club last week, sponsored by Michael Lyng Motors.

‘We are so lucky to have such a stunning course here in Carlow – and it is an added bonus when you get glorious sunshine.’ Says Norah Ryan, President of County Carlow Chamber of Commerce.  ‘The Golf Classic has become an important staple in our events calendar.  It offers members the chance not only to compete against each other – but also to network informally and have some fun.’

Golfers of all levels and abilities enjoyed the event – with some taking it more seriously than others.  The winners were:

1st Prize – Michael Lyng Motors with 96 points

2nd Prize – The Woodford Dolmen Hotel with 94 points

Closest to the Pin – Ger Kirwan of Unum sponsored by Carlow County Council

Men’s Longest Drive – Mark Delany of the Talbot Hotel sponsored by Harney Chartered Accountants

The Putting Competition (sponsored by Detail Menswear) winners were:

  • Alan Shelley of Simply Workflow

  • Michelle Cullen of Jones Engineering

‘ Events like these don’t happen by themselves – I’d like to thank everyone who joined us on the day and made the event so special, and to all those that helped with the set up and running of the event.’ Explains Nicola Doran, CEO of County Carlow Chamber of Commerce.  ‘Thanks, in particular, to our main sponsors Michael Lyng Motors, our prize sponsors and to all of our tee box sponsors (there were 27 in total). Thank you to Hickson’s Centra, Walsh Whiskey and Carlow Brewing for keeping everyone refreshed and fed throughout the day.  And a big shout out to the great teams at Carlow Golf Club and the Lazy River Café – who treated us all so well.  We are looking forward to next year’s event already.’

The prizegiving for the Chamber Golf Classic will take place during the Chamber Summer Social in Calluna Bar and Grill later in July.
