County Carlow Chamber meet with Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation

The County Carlow Chamber of Commerce were delighted to meet with Minister of State Robert Troy last Friday 27th May 2022 during his visit to Carlow.

Robert Troy TD is the Minister of State with responsibility for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, a role he took up was appointed to in July 2020.

There were several items on the agenda for the meeting with Minister Troy, including the challenges of recruiting and retaining staff in businesses across all sectors.  With businesses having to look outside the country for recruitment, the issues have been further impacted by delays in the allocating of PPS numbers and even up to 8 month waiting for visa applications to be processed.

Promoting Carlow as an attractive place to live, work and do business is a key priority, and ensuring that the right supports are in place to add to the voice for Carlow is important.  in discussions with Minister Troy, the current vacancy in the role of Regional IDA Manager for the South East was discussed especially as the new IDA site in Carlow nears completion.

Commenting on the meeting, Colin Duggan, President of County Carlow Chamber said “We were delighted to meet with Minister Troy on his visit to Carlow and to discuss some of the key challenges impacting businesses across so many sectors at present.   The meeting was very productive and we look forward to following up with Minister Troy in the coming weeks for an update on some of the items discussed including visas, ppsn, recruitment and apprenticeships”.
