The County Carlow Chamber have announced that Turlough O’Brien will be recognised for his contributions to Carlow through being awarded the Carlow Ambassador Award.

While his day job is as Chief Executive of Tinteán, Carlow Voluntary Housing Association, providing social housing for families, the elderly, and people with special needs, outside of this he is perhaps better known as the manager leading the #carlowrising campaign of the Carlow Senior Footballers over the past four years, and as the author of Cycling South Leinster, Great Road downloadRoutes.  Not only has the transformation in the mindset of the team led Carlow to newer and bigger challenges, it also changed the mindset across the county, igniting an energy and passion, willing the team even further in their efforts to improve Carlow’s footballing status.

On being informed that he has been selected as the Carlow Ambassador, Turlough commented that “it was an honour to receive this award from County Carlow Chamber, however he was only one member of the backroom team behind the team on the playing field”.

Brian O’Farrell, CEO of County Carlow Chamber said “the judge’s decision of awarding Turlough the Carlow Ambassador Award is welcome and well deserved. He has taken Tinteán forward in the short time since he took the reins while he was also leading the Carlow Senior Team on a journey that has seen Carlow develop as a serious force to contend with in both the league and championship.”

The Ambassador of the Year Award will be presented to Turlough at the Carlow Business Awards on Thursday next the 27th September.
